dear susheela
we met in chennai in 1975, i was with the sidi goma tour - and a photo of us to remember you by - since then i’ve found your brilliant CD salt rain - the kritis are simply exquisite. Please tell me, who did you learn Nagumomu from, and with the shuddha dhaivatam at that! There are several chapters in my dissertation about that, and i plan to publish an article soon. So please, divulge!
And then you were on LinkTV, wonderful to see you in action. Beautiful!
Hi Susheela
I am opening a new music venue in London at the end of 2008 called The Forge. If you are looking for places to perform in London please get in touch with me as I love your music. Check out www.forgevenue.org

Greetings. What a voice u have i love ur voice. I stumbled upon ur music. I was looking for classical songs in ethiopia. Great Job. I am ur new fan. keep up the good work. I love how u incoperated ur music with indian drum and instruments from diffrent place. peace and love .
last night i saw you and mr .Mills perform at D.I, kolkata ........and back from the days when i first listened to sarasa , i had been a great fan of yours and sam mills ........ but then i could not have beleived that this kind of symphony can be churned out from only a classical guitar and a tabla as the sole instrument unless i’ve seen it with my eyes.. you folks are some real magicians ... the show last night has so overwhelmed me that it’s hard to find da exact words.... my only gripe being the show being a brief one and we did’nt have l’ame volatile or sakhi maro ......
guess we can have the next time you’re in kol .... meanwhile i’ll hunt for 33 1/3 (your only album that i haven’t had til now)
with best regards

I live in Thanjavur. I was introduced to your music by a Tamizh magazine. I started listening to your Salt Rain. Haven’t stopped yet. I hate to admit, I have replaced M S Subulakshmi with you. You bring in the mysticism of the western world musicians still having the Indian flavour very much alive. I am listening to 331/3 now. Quite surprised to learn that only 3 artistes were involved. Yoodoo Right wakes me up. Thanks for doing this Susheela. I love you and Sam.

Bonjour,
Hi: I am only familiar with Salt Rain and have relished it a thousand times. I hope you will tour in the New York area sometime. I don’t see the USA on your tour schedule!?
Thanks, Gareth
when is she coming to give a concert in germany?

Hello Susheela,
I’ll start this message in French as I know that you have a better command of this langage(Paris Plage in Auguste 11th) than I have of my mother tongue which is Tamil:-).
J’adore tes 3 albums et plus spécialement Love Trap and Save me de ton 2ème album. Cela fait longtemps que je n’étais plus envoutée par de la musique. Ta voix élève les âmes et ton orchestre multiculturel est fantastique.
I can’t wait to see you on September 15th in the Cigale.
Nathalie from Paris
Bravo pour ce concert au bord de la rivière ;) A chaque fois la magie de votre voix opère et nous fait voyager et vibrer. Mille fois merci pour ce flot d’émotions. Mais c’était beaucoup trop court... Rendez-vous à la Cigale .

hello , Susheela ! In a bad english I’ve to say you all my greatings for your voice, your music and your deeply human artistic step . So when I listened your songs the first time, I thought "she is the woman of my poem!" ... A but-in-french poem, for you Susheela!

Dear Ms. Raman
I work with UTV Motion Pictures, UK and India, and we produced The Namesake in collaboration with Fox Searchlights!! Ever since i’ve heard the song "Yeh Mera Deewanapan Hai" from the film, I’ve just been listening to it. The song has been greatly appreciated in India. Would love you to sing songs for our other films as well..We have a great number of Indian Movies coming up. And the intensity and meaning you put in a song is unbelievable. I never knew "yeh mera deewanapan" was such a soulful song unless u sung it... Would love to get in touch with you or your manager to work things out. Best of luck! Saurabh
Hi Susheela — it’s Simon who lived next door to you in Stanmore in Sydney. I’ve followed your career for years. A few of us are planning a trip to India next year and I mightbe going via Chennai so would love to say hi to your parents if we pass by. My email is sc@med.usyd.edu.au Take care
Simon
Susheela and fellow musicians, I truly appreciate what you are doing with your music—everything from the most outspoken melodies down to the most minute backgrounds. Your music is beautiful because it communicates emotion in a truthful way. I hear no pretense. It is also beautiful because of the finesse shown by the musicians on the albums.
I enjoy your music so much that I played "Music for Crocodiles" about 20 times on a road trip through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado (US). Your music and the mountains are a perfect combination!
Once again, thank you for your hard work and good taste! I sincerely hope you make a stop in the United States one day! :)
I just discovered you way over in Edmonton Alberta Canada....and wow....what a lovely discovery! I am singer songwriter, mostly jazz but love to fuse it with world influences and you have definitely inspired me. Spirit willing you may find you way over to Canada to tour our lovely country. We would be fortunate and honored to have you perform here for our many festivals if you haven’t already.
Thanks again for the inspiration and thank you for the snoring....I loved the snoring....hillariously beautiful : )
Hi Susheela,
Haven’t seen you for a too long time... I’m waiting for your new album impatiently. I know it will as great as others. Hope to see you soon in south of France ( for a massage ?...why not...lol). Take care. Kisses. Marie
we haven’t seen you since a beautyful summer evening at the Crest Jazz Vocal in France some years ago.
Unfortunately up to now you didn’t appear here in Germany. We ’re sure that it would be worth to come to Germany with your great music and band.
Looking forward to see you this summer somewhere in our region.

hey !
I’ve been an admirer for a few years now . First song I listened to was "Woman" and I fell in love with the ending. Then I saw the video of "Maya" and that was enough for me to buy the album. "Music for crocodiles " is a delight , great effort highly appreciated to sing in French :D My absolute fave song is "Blue Lily , Red Lotus" , I can’t stop listening to your music . Thanks for all... but TOO BAD the original lyrics aren’t on the booklet :( If anyone knows the lyrics , especially of "Blue Lily , Red lotus" , please please please send them here: joolov@hotmail.com !!! Or just put them in the site ;) I planned to see you in Brest in June but unfortunately could not. Can’t wait to finally see you live, Susheela. Keep pleasing us with your music. Jool
Oh My Godesses! What a voice, what a groove, the compositions are awesome, great musicians too. The combination of "styles", I mean, it sounds just superb! You got it! And the most special thing is that you give us that soul through your voice!
Your voice is so sensual, it is a real LOVETRAP. Susheela, I just hope to hear you live. I am Paulucci Araújo from Brasil- play didjeridoo, "jaw-harp", throat-singuing/Mongolia, tibetan singuing bowls...
I scrobled ya at last.fm, and since then started hinting all my friend about your divine music.
Deep Love and respect.
By the way, you look beautiful as a Shiva’s lover.
Hi S,
This is a high risk of embarrassment approach (for me incase I’m wrong), but I didn’t know where else to write and i am dying to ask you something. I have so been meaning to ask you for over a decade now if you are the same Sush Raman that may have met a guy called Akash (me) from Melbourne on a flight to India in the late 80’s (I think). I believe you were in high school in Sydney at the time and travelling alone to India with a photo of you and your best friend. A lot more memories come to mind like you giving me a photo of you singing on stage at a school gig. I think we also did exchange numbers and you did try and call a couple of times from Sydney to Melb but I was unlucky as I missed your calls and got into trouble from Mum vigorously asking why a girl was calling for me :-(. Pls think about it and let me know if I should infact be turning red with embarrassment. I hope to hear from you. In the meantime I have ordrered your cd’s from amazon. love, akash ps. I am living in London now. akash.datta@btinternet.com
"Now my foolish boat is leaning Broken love lost on your rocks For you sang, "Touch me not Touch me not, come back tomorrow" Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow"

Waiting next live in "Jazz Café"11st Augus.

I remember one of my happiest day. Nice, France, jazz festival, few years ago. Fan of Salt rain and Paban das baul, I was so happy and affected to be there to work during your show. I was the follow spot operator. Thank you, Susheela, Sam (and Paban) for giving me joyful and peaceful times. with love.

Hi Susheela,
Thank you for the Trust in me cover! We all know where it comes from.....THE JUNGLE BOOK of course!
I was just interested to know what convinced you to sing this particular song? Why not Bare Neccessities lol?
Did you see the film as a child and that’s what drove you to use it?
Well thanks very much dear. Take care.

GET BETTER (VERY) SOON !...
What terrible news!... I sincerely hope your precious voice will recover quickly... We’re looking forward to listening to you soon...
Merci, thanks a lot. Your concert was a dream, and I am still flying. I hope you’ll come back in Clermont-ferrand. If so, It will be a great pleasure to hear you and I would like (if possible) to present you a friend of mine, she is Bresilian and sings in a group (she is very seek now) when I saw you on stage I thought of her.
I am listening now to different groups called ZAO (african) tittle "ancien combattant", a french rapper Grand Corps Malade "je dors sur mes 2 oreilles", Thierry TITI Robin "Gitans", do you no them?
I could talk to you for hours, I am sorry but It’s so strange to me that I feel you are a friend.
Excuse me to be so friendly. I wish you a better health. My home is your home any time.
Namasté,dear Susheela, ganesh bless you. Salamalecom, yasou koukla mou. A bientôt Anne
Hi,
Do you have any plans of performing in India soon ?
I would also be grateful if you could send me an email id for Sam Mills. I need to get in touch with him regarding Baul Music. There is a particular Baul song clip that appears in the MSN encyclopedia that appears courtsey Sam. I would like to know who the baul singer is and where i could find more songs by this singer or someone similar.
Many many thanks
Warm regards
Projit
Hi - Susheela, I’m a big fan of your music but am extremely disappointed to have bought music for crocodiles. I cannot transfer it to my ipod, so after spending nearly $30 on the cd, I can’t even listen to it.
Anyway around this problem? Kim in Vancouver, Canada
hello,
I am very sorry you have to cancel today’s concert in Barcelona...I hope you are alright. Are you planning to in Barcelona when you feel better? We are looking forward to see you!

Bonjour à Tous (Hello every body)

To Susheela Raman - the vixen of indo-jazz...
I was probably the only other anglo-indian apart from yourself, standing in my painful shoes directly in front of you, at your 2-hour concert at The Docks in Lausanne on 22 April 2006!!
Thank you for the quick chat and the signed CDs, we put them straight into the CD player as soon as we got home after the concert!
I think it’s fabulous that indian women are finally making a stand and showing the world what they can do, you are a prime example, your music is absolutely beautiful - I especially like the way you integrate traditional indian hymns into English rock, jazz, blues... (well your talent enables you to mix anything really!!)..your voice transports every listener to another dimension...
I do a bit of amateur singing myself and I have certainly found inspiration in your work.
From one "âme volatile" to another..thank you for such a fantastic concert make sure you put Lausanne back onto your agenda soon!!...

Hello Susheela!
I first discovered your music in college a few years back, when a "copy left fanatic" friend of mine gave me your music. I hadn’t heard it in a while, because I keep collecting all strains of music.
Just happened to listen to Salt Rain again. The power of your music is gripping - "Trust in Me" and "Salt Rain" especially!!! I just downloaded all your Music for Crocs stuff. Will prob drop you a line a little while hence.
ciao, shruti
Susheela, I’m reeeeeaaaallllyyy in love with your music. It makes me relax, get energic, shout happy screams!! Well, it’s really ... speechless!!!
Silence, sowmetimes, orths more than a lot of words and i’ll shut up now, and enjoy!
Thank you for making me love life!! and to "trust" in it again! Thank you for "being my friend"!!!
Totally yours, Bruno Grilo from Lisboa
PS: Please come to Lisbon, Portugal!!
Hi Susheela, we are still in bliss from the beautiful songs you sang tonight at "Stadtgarten" in Cologne. You were singing wonderfully and some of the songs were even more touching than on your CD’s. Sam’s guitar was great even without bass support. However the big downer happened after your concert. We came to the stage where you and Sam sat to sell your CDs. We bought your latest release: "Music for Crocodiles", but Sam seemed to have lost it all completely. When we payed with one 50 Euro bill he first shortchanged us by 20 Euros and then worst of all he sold us a CD which is absolutely useless it is cracking and jumping like an old vinyl record which is all scratched. We cannot listen to it and that is a disaster. 20 Euros for a broken CD is not right and we know you didn’t do this intentionally. Please let us know where we can send this useless CD to give back to you and we hope that you’ll replace it with a "good" one. Your concert was divine and we’d so much like to have a memory of it. Hello Susheela,
I am not even sure if you will ever get to read this, but just in the event you do I just like to write this message to you.
I am just an ordinary person that loves music, all kind of music and lots of it. I particularly love your music and your style.
To me your music is heartful, Its interesting, beautiful and just so incredibly professional and diverse. Listening to your music for me is like a musical journey. I have spend many years in India and have a great appreciation for the Indian influence that is present in the music that you offer. I love it.
I live in Australia in a place that is called Byron Bay on the East Coast. Every year I go to the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Music Festival.
I feel its would be great to see you perform here. I know that many people in this area would have a great appreciation for your music. I am sure of it. many great artists perform here every year. I guess what I like to say is, if you ever come this way and you would cosider performing at the Byron Blues Festival, I and many of my friends would just love it and I hope that you will cosider it some day.
Take care and all my blessings
Nishanto
I am completely in love with the Music for Crocodiles CD.

After buying Music for Crocodiles a few weeks ago, on a whim, I was ecstatic to see you were coming to Leicester. After bullying my boyfriend into taking me to your show, we both had the most amazing time at the gig. He was very grateful for my persistence! Your music is extraodinarily beautiful and all three performers were amazing to see and listen too.
Please come back soon.
What a wonderful evening spend watching a group of musicians who excel individually come together in a performance that was both polished and spontaneous and free.
Thank for giving it your all when you were under the weather - we didn’t know until the last song!
wanakum and namaste Susheela, you truly are a gift fromthe goddess! I saw you in leicester and have long looked forward to seeing you after stumbling upon salt rain in the shop by accident. Your performance was truly divine I was very moved particularly by your opening invocations of saraswathi, I hope you will record them I love what you are doing bringing your own uniqueness to south indian music. I lived in tamil nadu for three years in the 70’s and studied the veena so of course I am delighted to hear it on your latest album. Your performans=ce was divine I felt you were living your music in front of our eyes it was indeed an honour. I am a sculptor, so if you are so moved you may want to have a look. I am very inspired by the artists of south india who are nameless and sit in the streets of mahabalipuram and those who find the essence of the stone, as I feel you d you find the essence of the sound and I am honored to have seen you, so sad you had a bad throat and I could not meet you but I wish you well and belssings for your future and that you are happy and well as you make those listening to you feel www.sueallanson.co.uk

cheers 2ur crew:)
Susheela, Sam and Aref,
I just wanted to say thank you for one of the most memorable performances I have seen in a long time. Your set at the Leeds College of Music last night 28/03/2006 was a pleasure from start to finish. Hearing ’Light Years’ performed live was enough to bring me to tears. I look forward to your next live performances....in the meantime I shall be recommending you to everyone I know! Good luck for the rest of the tour. Jay
Greetings from Germany,
i came to Susheela’s music all by a sudden.
I was at a music & bookstore, i was somehow attracted by the title&cover of the album "Music For Crocodiles". When listening to the first tones i felt all shivered and touched - barely i can say that i have had similiar experiences before ;)
So after 15 seconds i knew i had to buy the CD immediately :D
The same event later i bought tickets for her concert in Berlin. And after reading all your nice comments i feel very happy & excited now :D

South Hill Park was excellent, even the electrical gremlins couldn’t spoil a brilliant performance from you all. But is there any chance of a return visit to Exeter ?????
Graham
Hi Susheela,
Wonderful performance at South Hill Park, Bracknell on Thursday 23 March. Shame about Sam’s electronic gizmos giving up the ghost - puts more pressure on you I guess and you met the challenge excellently. Hope all was fixed for Crawley Tunbridge and beyond(you have a pretty intense calendar to April...and ... rest?)
"Music for Crocodiles" is constantly on our CD players (at home and in the car) - I love it! The richness in variation of sounds is extraordinary and highly refreshing.
Keep on - you’re doing a fantastic job
Love to all,
Dave
Dear Susheela,
Thank you for a most wonderful experience of sound, vision and feeling at the ’Forge’, Basingstoke on Wed 22 March.
It is so refreshing to hear the combination of many cultures in your music. The band works so well together too - it shows how well suited you are!
Thank you for the gift of "Trust in me" - you may have sung this so many times it has become a bit ’so-so’ but it was the first time I heard it - absolutely brillant!!
You come across as really ’owning’ the songs you sing even when they aren’t ones you’ve written or have been written for you - a most wonderful gift.
Your guitarist (can’t remember name, sorry!) is fantastic - I only wish my son was with my wife and me at Basingstoke for the inspiration - my son plays guitar and is very early in his playing. The range of sounds was incredible and carefully compemented your singing. I think he made the comment to my wife that he felt there was too much guitar - we both felt the balance was just right.
The Tabla player is a marvellous member of the band - it gives the overall sound an amazing depth which together with your singing and the guitar produces a very ’big’ sound, hard to appreciate when ’all’ there is, is a voice, drums and acoustic guitar....
We shall certainly be looking out for you in future and will be buying your CDs.
Thanks again
Much love to you and your band
Dave & Deborah
Hi Susheela Raman.
This is a small note from Amber from the Netherlands. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a cd, Music from the chocolate lands. On it, there was a song of yours, Sarasa. After hearing this song, I went back to the shop the next day and bought your cd’s. I was immediately blown away by your music and especially by your voice. I’d like to thank you very much, your music is an enrichment!
thanks for a lovely performance last night, me and friends really had a good time. I’d never heard of you before and it was great to hear such a talented performance. It would have been nice perhaps with a little percussion of some sort too.
P.S. thanks for the autograph on the tickets, when we get some cash we’ll buy the CD’s :)
Thank you for the wonderful performance last night at the Sage Gateshead. Fantastic. Your voice is quite extraordinary. For me though this extraordinary voice was drowned out in so many of your songs by the volume of Sam’s guitar.
I wanted to hear you and couldn’t get past the guitar.
Have you thought of doing an album of just South Indian temple music?
Thank you again. Mary
Dear Susheela,
thank you for your going-in-depth and at the same time so very simple, true songs ... I was "made in India", my parents are German, I’ve been living in France for 14 years, now - strange feeling to listen to your songs ..! seems to remind me something ...
Dear Susheela and Sam,
I was at your concert at Clare Cellars in Cambridge last night, and just wanted to thank you for the beautiful spellbinding experience of it all. You have subtlety, intimacy and gentleness, as well as pure craziness. The concert made magic! You guys rock live and I can’t wait to see you again. Please, please bring out a live album, or at least a couple of songs...
Thanks and love, Ariane
DEAR SUSHEELA

Dear Shusheela, sam and steve (i think-apologies if thats all wrong!?)
I was at the kendal gig on saturday and just wanted to thank you guys for sharing your music with us. What a refreshing performance..it was beautiful intoxicating reflective and sincere but it also had balls! It was wondeful to witness the flow..your music is magic and you have so much energy and talent..just cant wait to see you again. Thanks - maxine -
P.S Please keep me posted if there is any live material going out..i would love to hear it again.
p.p.s i also really liked your version of song to the siren (it’s one of my favourites)
Dear Susheela, Sam and Aref,
Having seen the concert in Bristol last night (26th Feb) I have nothing to say but it was nothing short of absolutely stunning.
Being Indian myself, I have heard both Indian and Western styles of music, and to be honest I really didn’t know what to expect when I read that your music blends east and west styles together. I can definitely say I wasn’t disappointed.
I play a bit of guitar myself (though clearly not as good as Sam!) and in the past have jokingly asked my friend (who plays tabla) if we should get together and play - never seriously - but the range of sounds you created and the way it blended together was really quite inspiring.
Once again, thank you very much for the concert and take care for the future. I will be looking out for your music :-)
Hi! I want to say show was incredible, i hope to see you soon here again. Music was amazin. Espero oir la proxima vez ese gran tema que es "Love trap"
Bye
pd:Where was your bass player? he’s great
Dea Susheela Namaste ! I was happy to meet you and interview you for Warsaws Jazzradio. Your gig was great, you have shown real Shakti power somehow. Now you have some diehard fans in Warsaw, so please comeback. I am also a musician of ethnic lore and would be happy to have you record with Polish folk musicians just like reggae giants The Twinkle Brothers did 10 years ago to great success ! Do you know Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa (Warsaw Village band)-we work close with them..anyway,
Happy Valetines if you observe!
Yours, DJ Magura ps. You promised a demo copy of Salt Rain to me?! please.
I just discovered you during a search on iTunes! You are great—a mix of all things that I love about music. So far, I’ve only experienced Salt Rain, but I look forward to hearing your next two!
Please keep in mind a tour visit to the northeastern U.S. (Philadelphia) at some time in the near future!
Hi Susheela,
I had a good time listening to you on radio last saturday night.
To hear you one more time : http://www.europe1.fr/antenne/reecoutez.jsp?ddj=1&hr=20 (23H "On connait la musique" Thierry Lecamp )
A friend of yours... Kisses.
Dear Susheela and Dear Sam, I’ve heard your faszinating unplugged studio concert at lausann on 23.11.2005 broadcastet by DRS 3 of switzerland. Since that time I’tried to get a CD of this wonderful concert. As I’m playing the guitar in my vacation time together with three friends (3 men: g/voc, b, perc, 1 woman; flute/voc) we’d like to learn something from your kind of world-/jazz-music. Our styles are anything between jazz, blues, folk, pop, rock and latin. Would it be possible to get a recording of your concert? What would be the costs for that? Glad to receive your answer

Hello Susheela, I am from US and a writer. I came across your music in 2004 had been a big fan of it since then. Waiting for your release of Music for Crocodiles in Feb ’06 for the american market.
Wishing you all the best in your endeavors. My all time favorite has been Maha Ganapathim from Salt Rain album.
My 1 year old daughter likes your music too.
Cheers, Nathan
Hello, I read a review of your music in The Independent. Delighted to see it and your very professional website, from which I heard snippets.
I notice that you are touring UK and coming to Cambridge on 11th March.
Will you have time to meet some students and staff from the University of Cambridge? Either before or after?
Also - if by this time in your tour you feel the need for some rasam (!) we could arrange this.

Hi Susheela,
Just a note from an old friend. How are you? Glad to see you have built a successful career out of music. How are your parents doing? Dad mentioned that he had come across your Dad over the past few years from time to time although not recently. Would love to hear from you some time.
Regards,
Naalini
Susheela,
Great music - I loved Salt Rain and Music For Crocodiles is growing on me.
Just one request - ask your record company to go easy with the copy protection. I’ve had real problems with putting Music For Crocs on my iPod and daren’t try it in my car - I’m going to be a lot more careful about buying EMI/Virgin?narada CDs in the future.
Cheers
Hello Susheela,
My name is Françoise Diboussi, I’m 26, I’m from Cameroon and I’m a big fan. I live in Paris. I’m working on a french feminine webzine called BITO (for Beauty, Intelligence, Tendancy and Originality). Bito is also an association dedicated to all women in the world who claim their double or multiple culture and to those who promote multiculturalism (in my language bito means women). I think you and I have something in common, we’re both trying to reconcile different cultures. The launching of the webzine is planned for march 9th (international woman’s day) and we (the other members of BITO and I) already have decided to write something about you in the first issue. I know you’ll be in France around this date and I was wondering if you’ll have time for an interview in Paris. I’m expecting your answer and I wish you the best for the tour.
Sincerely yours,
Françoise
Hi Susheela,
Music for Crocodiles is really one of the best albums I have picked up lately.
"What Silence Said" has some very good lyrics.
Great Sound, Great Lyrics. Great Package.
Any plans of touring India?
Hi Susheela,
I heard your music on the radio and loved it enough to go buy your album. But your record company use ’copy protect’ and I can’t listen to it! Your fans are being left with very expensive, useless, shiny frisbees rather than being able to listen to your voice. Not a great marketing policy.
hello susheela
wishing you a happy new year. knowing that true love and light and peace radiates from you and thankyou for your graceful blessings unto us all.
we said hello briefly in brighton and i asked you about music. i am a singer songwriter, also into yoga chanting...just wanted to know if you had any tips or advice for spreading the good energy music.
peace to you and it will be lovely to sing with you one day...perhaps...
with much love and light

Bonsoir Susheela & Sam,
What a wonderful gift you gave us near Pontoise-Paris on December, 3rd ! Your concert was once again highly moving and deeply impressive... We really appreciated all your vocal ‘improvisations’ like magical journeys, Sam’s divine technique and your friendly percutionist. You gave all you had within you, and unexpectedly, you came back to spend a few minutes with a few of us...What a great honour, and a delightful moment...I also wanted to thank you for all your efforts to speak our difficult French language. Two more requests: 1- come back to France as often as you can (even in province...) ! 2- please, record a live performance into a CD (with, if possible, the Maurane duo: “Pour les âmes Pour les hommes” you sang with so much emotion and sincerity...
Susheela, please come back soon to enchant us again...
Just to say thanks for the wonderful concerts in Seyssinet(Grenoble) and Lyon. Well as soon as I got home from the Seyssinet concert I booked online for Lyon. Well worth the trip to Lyon which was even better!
I’ve been to about 40 concerts this year and until now kept asking myself which was best. This was fantastic! There are so many things I love about the music, each musician, your voice.
I really hope to see you back here soon (How about Grenoble’s "Cabaret Frappe" http://www.cabaret-frappe.com/ in July/August?). See you somewhere soon ....
Hi Susheela
I first discovered you years ago, during a short interview at the FNAC of Lyon, you were quite unknown at the time. My wife Anne Sophie and I saw you singing almost each time you went in Lyon since, in the Salle Molière at the Saone river bank, next in a "péniche" of the Rhône river, and at the Transbordeur. My wife and I enjoyed so much your performance at the Ninkasi Kao, the 15th of december 2005. You are such a generous singer with your audience. At the and of your show, I asked you a dedicace for my wife on your first album, witch we heard son many time it became totally scratched. I apologize for been so rude, forgeting to ask you an other dedicace on your new album we bought at the same time from your friend next to you. I really love the way your music evolved and your last album is really gorgeous. See you soon on new horizons.
Thks to Putomayo Concert in Singapore!I m glad i met her in person! Ecstacy beyond description. U watch ppl wave their bodies to her tune.I learnt bout Susuheela Raman. impulsively, got a fren to send me both the Salt Rain & LOve Trap from UK!(as my birthday gift)!! Hi Susheela:-) A friend who shares your first name introduced Salt Rain to me last week.
You’ve pleasantly surpised me! Being of South Indian origin, third generation Malaysian, a Carnatic Music student and a singer who draws inspiration from selected genres of music, I resonated with yours. Most fusion music takes a while to get to me, if ever. Yours was intstant! It invoked pleasant familiarity through traditional nuances - and yet it felt like you approached it on your own terms.
I love it. Hope I’ll be able to see you perform in Kuala Lumpur sometime! :-)
Hello from Bordeaux !
We all do really love Susheela here ! I wish i meet her some day ! Why not in a concert in Bordeaux ...
Best regards
Dominique Moreno
Hi from Geneva,
unfortunately I was not able to come to your concert last night in Usine .Could you send me the information when you will come next time to geneva or in the aeria , Many thanks and bravo for your talent . ELISABETH
HI Susheela,
My name is Sam McNally; I am a keyboard-player from Sydney. We met in.... must have been 95 or so, before you went overseas. I just happened to read about you in "Word" magazine and I thought "I recognize that girl, I wonder if it’s the same "Susheela" ". Dunno if you remember me, doesn’t matter if you don’t but I did go back to your place and met your mom briefly. We were sorta kinda going to maybe do something (I work as a producer/arranger, and mainly as a side-man).
These days, I do my own shows (I’m at The Basement in Sydney Dec. 5th) and I go to Malaysia and China and Japan a lot, for a variety of projects.
Anyway, it’s amazing to see how far you’ve gone! I’m sorry to say I wasn’t aware of what you’ve been doing til now and a bit of quick Google-ing.
You may/may not remember I must have mentioned I’ve been to India lots of times and I’m totally familiar with Hindi culture.
All the best.

hi guys - thanks for a beautiful acoustic gig at the colchester last night. I wished I could have stayed to chat about the music (& sad guitar effects stuff).
I also run acoustic gigs at the same venue so it was weird & highly informative to be on the receving end. wonderful stuff.

Susheela, you rock! Try rocking the States once in a while. The USA could use some good music. ;-P
Your voice is lovely. Keep being fantastic.
Michelle, NY, USA
Hi susheela (what a beautiful name..)
First time I hear your voice and music was at planet music on arte you were the guest of cheb mami (if my memory is good) and i really loved what I heard. it was really the music I wanted to hear. So I bought your first cd, then the second and the third (music for crocodiles). I’m really pleased and delighted to discover you. I’ve been to your little gig in Paris La Fnac it was really good too!! well...I do love what you’re doing in music ;)
Hola guapa! I just saw you perform at the ’Copernico Nova’ club here in Madrid. You were amazing. I stood close to the stage and just bathed in the music. I loved that medley of three songs done in the ’Ethiopean Mode’. But in fact I can’t pick a highlight because the whole gig was excellent!
I’ve been a fan of yours for ages but this is the first time I managed to catch you live!
you can’t imagine how much i have fallen in love with your music.
I’ve been a fan of indian music and world music since really young (ke hal hey... wrong alphabet but wright phonetics for "how are you" in ..indian). I’ve travelled a lot in middle east during my youth and loved all the indian influence there is in Saudi Arabia and in the sultanate of Oman (much more respectful than in S.A. to be honest(towards indians)) and no artist could really bring me that groove untill i saw a broadcast on TV5 (european TV channel) of you and Cheb Mami a few years ago... damned, I just loved that show!
What can i say, you’ve caught me in your love trap! :p
Fot Buddah’s sake, keep feeding our soul with your heavenly music !!
When Salt Rain came out i thought: that’s good music... after Love trap I thought: a pretty good sequal, the music is cooler than cool.... but then music for crocodiles came and ... ooooh damned that is the perfect stuff! You are a confirmed artist and thus must give us more and more and more :p (i hope you will!).. the only thing I was wondering the other day is ... is she (or "they" because the musicians you have are greater than great and I also owe them much of the pleasure I get when listening to your music).... is she ever going to make a poor/bad/averge song???
with love/compassion/adoration/respect keep bringin’ us what we need... gooood music !!!

Thanks for coming to the Exeter Phoenix and making my exile from London that much easier to bear !
Brilliant concert, made my year.
Now - what about that live album ?

Hello Susheela My name is Rehman and have lived in America since I was two after moving from Pakistan. I first saw your music video for ’Maya’ on World Link TV’s World Music program. I instantly researched your CDs and purchased Salt Rain. The next day, I purchased Love Trap. I am so excited to purchase your new CD and spread your music through the streets of Germantown, Maryland, USA! Please think about coming to the US to tour - come to Washington DC’s ’9:30 Club’ and you will not be dissapointed! Please continue your magical voyage of music...
AND you speak French!? You rock...
I posted this on the fRoots website gig reviews. I reviewed Su for them earlier this year. It was a magical night, many thanks.
I came to Susheela Raman rather late in life but better late than never in this case when she guested on Mercan Dede’s Su where I was immediately tranfixed by her ‘lush, breathy voice’ on the track Ab-i Beka. On a cold Sunday night she, with her husband, Sam Mills, impressively skillful on acoustic guitars, played to a small but truly enthusiastic and appreciative audience in the up close and personal surroundings of Johnny and Cleo’s Stables in the hinterlands of Milton Keynes. On stage there was a powerfull and refreshing simplicity to their pairing they had no other musicians with them and used only the minimum of tracks but they still made a totally involving and mesmerising night of it, with that acrobatic and throaty depth to her real woman’s voice that has something of the dark and primeval about it. She moved seamlessly from emotive, traditionally based songs to smooth cool jazz and was as equally as exciting to watch as to listen to, throwing herself physically into the wilder, rocking renditions from Music For Crocodiles and her earlier albums, making full use of that amazing mane of hair. She apologised before the encore for the frog in her throat well, it must have been some incredibly talented frog! and then sinuously launched into the most sexy, sensual and scary, scary version of Trust In Me from Disney’s Jungle Book as it was never sung by the snake, Kaa!!! I’ll never be able to look Mowgli in the eye again.................... Yvonne Mitton
A little "salut" direct from my soul: grand merci pour votre talent généreux qui communique en direct avec l’âme de chacun, la fait vibrer d’admiration sur l’onde de la beauté vocale, l’invite au voyage dans un monde d’amour éblouissant d’humanité fraternelle. Longue vie à vous.

Dear Susheela,
Came across your stuff on iTunes. In my personal opinion, Crocodile is one of the albums of the year.
In the various tracks your album has given life to a new aspect of brit/asian fusion hitherto unheard of. You have "Ethnized" Jazz like no other artist from any culture.
Beautiful voice, fantastic musicians, brilliantly produced , mixed and mastered.
Thank you for this valuable offering to the world. I look forward to your live performances in London - Please also consider performing at the 606 club in Chelsea - Any assistance I can give in organising this - please do let me know.
All the best for the obviously bright future

Shusheela: I am a jazz vocalist who has
been around and back again in this world
and career, and I have to tell you, since the Trust in Me track was played for me by a friend, your vocals, instrumentation, execution and interpretation of lyric has remained joyously in my head as the "something new" we all look for.
Thanks, Lady. Check me out at my
www.michaeldanso.com site and at least
see that I know a little about what I am
speaking of. Best to you and your
musicians. You weave magic together..md
